Hello,
I am currently researching Familiar tremors as I have had hand tremors from childhood. I am 33 and now it is intefering with my fine motor skill. Familiar tremors is a genetic condition and it runs in the family. I have been to several specialists and have had my Thyroid tested to see if it is Graves disease, which can be treated by Medication. Everything came out fine. It is frusterating as I have been to several specialists and have heard the same thing Familiar Tremor. I do not know alot about my family history but I was told by a specialist that Familiar Tremors can start as a child or as an adult. They treat it with medication usually anti seizure medication. I have been on several different meds and I am on my last med Keppra. If it can not be treated by medication and it is impeeding function there is a surgical proceedure in which a microship is put in the Thalamus and this decreases the firing of brain electrical activity communicating with the hands. This unfortunatly can only be done for the dominant hand and the success rate is excellent. It cannot be done for both hands as there have been neurological deficits (slurred speech, facial droop). I do not know your family history but I know how frusturating it is trying to find a diagnosis and as an adult dealing wit the questions as to why I shake is difficult. I have no Idea that I am shaking as I have no control over it. I have adapted over the years but it is now intefering with my fine motor skills (holding coffee, writing). I hope you find an answer.
