You are not alone. We have 11 week old with similar story. Started at about 5 weeks. Inconsolable crying would start about 20min after feeding (breast). Would pull her knees up to chest and just scream. Moderate spit up but not projectile. Obviously very unhappy, not just normal fitting. Told it was likely a milk allergy. Mom stopped eating dairy for a week with no improvement. Moved from breast to Prosobee over the next week with marginal improvement – were [I’m] very frazzled from crying at this point. Next, completely off breast and off Prosobee and onto Alimentum (not cheap). Getting a little better but not great – Doc recommended adding 1Tbs baby rice to 2oz formula – Way better by week 8.
Week 10: now in retro-grade. Had a very scary experience Tues. She was playing on her back and spit up, became instantly congested and could not breathe (at all!) Took over a minute to clear her with smacks on back and finger – VERY SCARY!
Took her to doctor on Wed. Doctor said that infant AR can cause mucus membranes to produce upper respiratory congestion, mucus stuff. In addition to the Alimentum and rice doctor prescribed infant Zantac twice a day.
She’s now sleeping in her swing so that she’s partially upright—bought a “wedge” to add to crib today. We have not started sleeping normally yet (should mention that even through all this she sleeps from about 1030pm to about 530am—also remains happy between episodes)
