2 year old has really bad breath

My two year old has had really bad breath for some time now. we have had his nose checked for any forgien objects and nothing has been found. He also has a little bit of a white coating on his tongue. His doc says he just has a virus. He has also been running a fever off and on for a week or so. Any help?
