8 year old's penis hurts when urinating

My son's penis hurts only occasionally when he urinates. Have seen a Urologist, no signs of infection, stream good, etc. Urologist recommends an IVP to check out everything inside. My son always has an erection when he complains of this, however, it does not always hurt when he has an erection nor when he urinates. Anyone had this situation before?
