About 2 1/2 years ago I became aware of a bright white flashing light right in the corner of my right eye. This alarmed me, so I booked an appointment with my doctor who referred me to the local eye hospital the NEXT day (causing even more alarm). They did a very thorough check of both of my eyes and asked alot of questions about what I was seeing. I told them that at various points throughout the day I saw a white flashing light right in the corner of my right eye, which was like a camera flashing in the corner of my eye (when obviously there wasn't)or like the effect of looking at a lightbulb as you switch it on (but right in the corner of my eye not directly in front. They couldn't find anything untoward and I must admit I was very relieved!! However, this did not solve the problem and to this day I still get it...some days really bad other days not so bad. One of the things I must mention is that it appears to be worst when I sit in a darkened room (ie: at the cinema). Apparently the symptoms I described were those of having a detached retina which requires surgery or something to do with the gel becoming thinner in your eye, but as I have said they couldn't find any evidence of either of these?! More recently, I have noticed that my left eye has started to do the same thing but not as bad or often, so I have now booked an appointment to see my doctor again. If anyone could 'shed any light' please excuse the pun, I would appreciate it. I am only 23 years old and still very concerned.
