Hello, I am a mother of a 7 week old son who was recently diagnosed with acid reflux. It so far has been very scary and stressfull.
His symptoms were no where common to the problem. He would arch his back and neck in what seemed to be attempts of trying to breath. He was eating just fine, burping only one big burp, and never really spit up or vomit. He did all this from birth and was told then that all was normal and some babies do these things. After weeks of struggle and sleepless nights I took baby back to doctor and insisted something was wrong. I was told that pulse oxygen rate was good and that all was fine again. In two days I took him back and complained again. This time the pulse oxygen rate was very low and NOW the doctor was concerned. He was immediately addmitted to the hospital for bronciolitis and tested several times for the RSV virus. Nothing was helping except oxygen. We were released two days later to return the very next morning. Now they decided to check for the reflux and found that he not only had a severe case of it but that he had burned the back of his throat and nose so bad that it would take weeks to heal.
If any of you suspect a problem -- insist on investigation. It is fixable with time and sometimes medication.
Good Luck To You All Ruth
