Think you have stomach acid problems? For starters I am going to shock you by telling you that it is very unlikely that you have excess stomach acid. More than 95% of people who think they are suffering from "acid reflux", excess gas and poor digestion are actually suffering from a triple threat I call S.A.D. or "The Standard American Diet." Here is what is most likely happening to you. First of all, you are probably improperly chewing and improperly combining foods. One of the best books on this subject is "Proper Food Combining Works" by Lee DuBelle. Get this book and follow it.

What is really going on in your stomach is not too much acid; it is the fermentation of undigested foods. Fermentation produces large amounts of gas that push stomach acid and food back up the esophagus. This is not "acid reflux"; it's a gaseous eruption.

Secondly your system is most likely producing too little acid. It is the lack of stomach acid which can cause fermentation. This lack of stomach acid can be assisted by drinking lemon juice with hot water 20 minutes before a large protein meal (i.e., meat or fish). If you must eat meat, do not eat a salad before the meal starts. Save it for a desert. If you have a lack of stomach acid, the worst thing you can have with your steak is a baked potato or bread.

Your third problem might be chest pains or abdominal pains from too much gas. This condition is actually coming from your small intestine, not your stomach. Here is what is going on. The undigested fermenting food caused by a lack of stomach acid, poor food combinations and improper chewing has finally been flushed down from the stomach into the small intestines. Here it continues to ferment causing even more gas due to the fact that it is now under more heat and more pressure. Jet streams of hot gas erupt into and fill the chest cavity or the large intestines, and boy, does it hurt! Lots of people think they are having a heart attack. If the gas is actually going in the proper direction but you have another undigested meal in your intestines blocking natures' passage, the pressure of the trapped gas can double you over in lower abdominal pain.

There is a small sphincter valve located between the stomach and small intestines that is supposed to close when food is flushed into the intestines, but guess what. If there is too much pressure coming from the gas released by the fermenting soup, this valve will often remain open. The result is Heart Burn!

There is a simple maneuver you can use to manually close this valve and almost instantly reverse the gas flow and stop the heart burn. Be careful with this knowledge, because, if this secret gets out, it will put a lot of people who make a living selling anti-acids out of work. (1) Stand up straight and put the middle finger of your right hand on your belly button. (2) lay your right hand down across your tummy so that your palm is resting just below the rib cage. (3) Push into your tummy firmly with the palm of your right hand and (4) jerk your middle finger up 45 degrees toward your left shoulder without removing your right palm from the body.

If you performe this maneuver correctly, you will notice an immediate change in the direction of the gas. Very quickly the pressure will ease in your chest as the gas dissipates. If this maneuver does not work the first time, try moving your palm down slightly. Sometimes it takes two or three attempts to get it right.

The lemon juice and the hand maneuver are only patches on this problem. The cure is proper food combining and your own desire to improve your health and rid yourself of lots of future grief. Please also read healthy eating suggestions.
