My mother would still be alive had her doctors not attributed her symptoms to "old age" and wanting attention.
She had been hospitalized for diverticulitis twice before she moved to this Southern state. Her pain was always in the lower right quadrant, rather than on the left side. I took her for a CTscan. She was so weak and in such pain that she was hospitalized for nine days. The CTscan was indeterminate. I took her home and in two hours, I called her doctor to tell him she had a fistula from the gut to the bladder. She had had diarrhea all the nine days she was hospitalized but no one checked it out. She died four days later after emergency surgery. That was 1987. Her brother had died the same way in 1928. Three of my first cousins died of diverticulitis and colon cancer. Must be genetic or similar faulty diets.
