Red leg lumps A few times a year, over the last four years, I get red, painful lumps on my lower legs. Description: They range in size of 1” to nearly 3” and start out perfect in a circle, usually remain that way. Two have shifted shapes, one to elongate up my leg, the other spread unevenly around my ankle from original starting position. They begin red in color, are tender to painful, and stay that way for 6 to 9 weeks then the pain disappears and they turn a dark brown. The brown coloring lasts roughly 8 months. They are raised, hot to touch, and are firm. Scans of them show some type of “fluid appearance” under the skin. I’ve no diseases, disorders. I’m female, 38, non-smoker (quit 3 years ago). As the doc says, I’m healthier than a horse ever could be, minus the occasional extra heart beat that started about four years ago. So what in the heck are these things? After two dozen tests, scans, poking around, no one can figure it out. Closest I have seen to them (shapes all wrong though) are the leg skin problems people with heart disease have.
