My 8 year old son had his tonsils removed because of this problem. It os called crater tonsils and food and stuff gets lodged in the tonsils and basically rots. Yes it was quite nasty. He had severe bad breathe from this and the only cure is to have the tonsils removed. He hasn't had any problems since the removal of his tonsils...Good luck!
