Uterus the size of 12 wks pregnant

I went to the Dr and was told thhat my uterus was as big as if I was 12 weeks pregnat. They did a pregnancy test and I was not, thanks God. My daughter was born 9 months ago and this was my first vist back as I missed my 6 wk appt. What could cause this. They have scheduled ahysterectomy since I am 40 an dhave had previous problems
